Advert: How Nutrition can support your Recovery
Post-competition recovery should always be taken seriously! Many triathletes make the thinking mistake that more training leads to greater progress and higher personal best times. The point is not to train more, but rather to train properly to reach personal bests. Humans constantly produce free radicals as part of normal metabolic processes. Studies have shown that high intensity exercise produces far more free radicals than normal exercise. These free radicals can damage our cells. For this reason, athletes need nutrients to prevent oxidative stress.
- Vitamin C(1) is one of nature's most powerful antioxidants, which helps support the immune system. Vitamin C works synergistically with other antioxidants to protect against oxidative stress. In addition, vitamin C is involved in the recycling of glutathione, the body's most important antioxidant!
- Vitamin C + Alpha Lipoic Acid (2): Alpha lipoic acid directly recycles and prolongs the half-life of vitamin C, glutathione and coenzyme Q1. It indirectly supports the recycling of vitamin E. All of these antioxidants work together to protect the body from oxidative damage.
- Vitamin C + Vitamin E (3): Vitamin E protects polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the cell membrane from oxidation. However, vitamin E relies on vitamin C to act synergistically with vitamin E in its active reduced form by protecting it from other oxidants.
Finally, a support system for the body in times of stress promotes emotional and mental health. Therefore, always take time after competition for yourself and the people who are your daily supporters. Many may not understand what you are putting yourself through with a competition like a triathlon- both on a physical and mental level. Be grateful to them every day, and be grateful to your body. For making things like this possible and for carrying you from start to finish.
