Finisher medals for Roth children
Medals from the cancelled 2020 race go to the region’s daycare centres
There is a special surprise this year for many Roth children: Due to the corona-related cancellation of DATEV Challenge Roth last year, the event finisher medals, which had already been ordered, could not be given to the athletes. And that is why around 3,000 medals have been donated by TEAMCHALLENGE to Roth day-care centres to great excitement from the children.
A total of more than 20 day-care centres from all parts of the Roth triathlon district responded to an appeal by TEAMCHALLENGE to receive medals for their organisation. "We didn’t have the heart to throw away the medals and are so delighted to be able to give the children a lot of joy with them," explains managing director Kathrin Walchshöfer-Helneder, "Especially the little ones who still have to bravely live through Corona, so they more than deserve a real finisher medal.” The BRK Children's Home in Hofstetten, for example, is using the medals to organize its own children's triathlon.
As a souvenir of the cancelled DATEV Challenge Roth 2020, athletes were able to order a combination package consisting of the finisher medal and the finisher shirt 2020 in return for a small donation. In total, more than 11,000 euros were raised for the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) Corona Emergency Aid. Leftover finisher shirts from the race will be donated to those in need in Somalia, Zimbabwe and Rwanda through three volunteers.
