Pure world class at the triathlon party of the year
With Jan Frodeno, Anne Haug and Patrick Lange, three world champions are on the start
This elite field is second to none: 3 July will be the ultimate sports spectacle for triathlon fans at the largest long-distance triathlon in the world. In the historically strong starting field, three world champions are on the start line with Jan Frodeno, Anne Haug and Patrick Lange. Also among the title contenders are Sam Long, Magnus Elbæk Ditlev, Laura Siddall, Fenella Langridge and Maja Stage Nielsen.
Duel of the world champions against the new generation
In the men's field, the German triathlon legends Jan Frodeno and Patrick Lange must pitch themselves against the up-and-coming competition, the best American, Sam Long, and Magnus Elbæk Ditlev of Denmark. For Jan Frodeno, it is the first race after his Achilles tendon injury. Patrick Lange is also making his comeback in the Home of Triathlon after an injury break of several months and his victory last year. It will be exciting to see how the two exceptional talents will fare after a long time without a long-distance competition.
Sam Long, who is skipping the race in Hawaii this year in order to be in top form in Roth, would certainly also like to have a say in winning. Magnus Elbæk Ditlev is attending his second long distance in Roth, but has already caused a sensation last year with his two half-distance victories at Challenge Budva and Ironman 70.3 Cascais.
Another outstanding athlete is Cameron Brown from New Zealand. Brown took part in the first Challenge in 2002 where he came second. At the age of 50, Brown is returning once again to the Roth start line as a professional to mark the 20th Challenge anniversary.
Anne Haug returns to Roth
For the women, the entire podium of DATEV Challenge Roth powered by hep 2021 returns to Roth again this year. Probably the biggest favourite to win the race is Hawaii winner Anne Haug. With a time of 7:53:48, the Bayreuth local delivered an exceptional performance on the slightly shortened course last year and was able to put on the crown in her Franconian homeland at her ROTH debut.
2021 runner-up, Laura Siddall, is returning to the Home of Triathlon for the fifth time this year. Showing her incredible strength, she overtook Fenella Langridge a few kilometres before the end of DATEV Challenge Roth powered by hep 2021, with Langridge completing the podium. As a ROTH rookie, Maja Stage Nielsen could blast last year's podium. The Dane finished tenth at the World Championships in St George in May and has been on the podium of several middle distances.
