Advertorial: DT Swiss aero wheels now available as a wheel tire system
DT Swiss now offers all of its aero-optimized wheels as a Wheel Tire System (WTS). The idea of coordinated wheels and tires has its origins in the early days of the collaboration between DT Swiss and the aero experts at Swiss Side, which began back in 2016.
In the context of aerodynamic wheel optimization, it was a logical consequence to include the tire in the further development steps, as the aero tires available on the market could only show their advantages under very specific operating conditions (higher speeds, matching rim shapes and heights).
While the shape and function of the special aero tire were determined at an early stage, the project required an expert in the tire material and tire composition. Together with Continental, the AERO 111 tire was developed, which is specially adapted to the wind influences acting on the front wheel.

Wind tunnel tests show that the modern wheel tire system enables up to 5 watts power savings compared to many other rim-tire setups with stronger lateral flow from a yaw angle of +/- 10°. This effect is already evident at a speed of 30 km/h, which is typical for amateur triathletes. The additional aero advantage results regardless of the choice of rim height.
