Challenge athletes donate 11,800 euros for the fight against COVID
Proceeds from various TEAMCHALLENGE campaigns
Keeping memories and doing good – with this remit, TEAMCHALLENGE created various means to make good use of the unused shirts and medals from DATEV Challenge Roth 2020.
Athletes could order the shirt with all the names of the starters and a special finisher package with proceeds going to charity. A total of 11,800 euros were raised, which were donated to Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) COVID emergency fund.
As a souvenir of the cancelled 2020 race or as a tangible reward for personal challenges this year, all athletes and friends of DATEV Challenge Roth were able to make a 10 euro donation to BRK by buying a finisher package consisting of a finisher medal and shirt.
After the race was cancelled, athletes were also able to donate to the same cause by ordering the name shirt for the race that never took place, both online in the Challenge Shop and at the Roth office open day in early July. The athletes could choose whether they would like to order the shirt with all the names of the registered participants for 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 euros.
“When the race was cancelled in March 2020, we faced an unprecedented situation. As in previous years, the T-shirts and medals were ordered and produced months in advance. Thanks to the athletes and volunteers, we are glad we can still do good and donate a very substantial sum to the BRK to help in the corona crisis and to support the BRK, who are doing everything in the current situation to help people,” explains Alice Walchshöfer, managing director of TEAMCHALLENGE.
Immediate help in the fight against the virus
The BRK, with its full-time and voluntary employees, is seriously committed to coping with the effects of the coronavirus. The money will be used to support testing of suspected cases, to procure protective equipment for the employees and to go shopping for retirement home residents or to put a smile on their faces.
Other shirts for those in need
The leftover shirts are of course do not go to waste. These have been donated to people in need in Somalia, Zimbabwe and Rwanda via three volunteers from DATEV Challenge Roth. The remaining 2020 medals will be donated to children's and youth triathlons.
